I was honored to be referred by a former professor for a unique opportunity to design the official town logo for the Churchville-Riga Chamber of Commerce. As someone who grew up in the area and attended elementary school there, this project carried both professional and personal significance, allowing me to contribute a lasting visual identity to a place that shaped my early life.

Objective

The primary goal was to create a logo that authentically represented the town’s heritage, landscape, and character. The chamber sought a design that would resonate with residents, reflect the town’s values, and be versatile enough for use across a wide range of applications, including printed merchandise to signage and digital platforms.

Design Process

Working directly with members of the Chamber, I led the creative direction and branding process. The initial concepts began with simplified vector interpretations of key local landmarks. After several rounds of revisions and feedback, the design evolved into a more refined, realistic, and colorful representation, featuring the town's waterwheel and clocktower as central visual anchors.

Color played a crucial role in unifying the design elements. I chose a muted blue for the sky to draw focus toward the architectural forms, while using a golden wheat tone to symbolize the region’s strong agricultural roots. These wheat illustrations flank the central imagery and echo the golden hues found in the clocktower. Similarly, the rich brown used for the waterwheel is subtly mirrored in the tower’s shadow creates a cohesive visual narrative.

Results

The final design was met with enthusiastic approval from the Chamber and community members alike. Since its completion, the logo has been widely adopted, on local storefront windows, printed merchandise, and the town water tower.

This project remains one of the most meaningful for me. Not just for its scope and visibility, but for its emotional resonance. Designing a logo that now serves as a symbol of community pride and local identity was a truly rewarding experience.
